I came to this restaurant with friends, who had nothing but great things to say about it. Throughout the night I learned just how right they were! We started out with the saganaki, which was a flaming kasseri cheese served with fried pita chips. This was a fun and tasty appetizer to order. For my entree I ordered the highly touted Greek style filet mignon. Juicy and cooked to perfection, I couldn't have been happier! My side of Greek pasta was the perfect one two punch to follow up with. Incredible service, an incredible steak, sharing the night with incredible friends, Chopped was the place to be. I highly recommend to anyone in the area looking a nice meal and a fun night!

I've been to Chop twice and each time I've gone it's been a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly and attentive. It has a classy/casual vibe. I love their Filet Oscar which is a fillet mignon topped with crab with a side of asparagus. Both times I've ordered it the steak was cooked correctly and pairs very well with the crab. If you're in mason city and want a very good meal, please don't miss Chop!

Had dinner here last weekend during my visit to North Iowa. What a great filet mingon! Ordered with the bernaise sauce on the side. You can tell this is the origional recipie from Prime and Wine. Steak was prepared perfectly. Well aged and very tender. Highly recommended.

This place is awesome. Another fine restaurant in Mason City that just explodes with a wonderful menu. The staff...one of the best we've met as well. If you have a chance to stop in, be sure to ask for one of Brandon's awesome fresh raspberry lemon drop martini's. Hands down a nice cocktail for the night. Okay...the food right? Wow! My first meal there was the 8 oz filet with asparagus side and grilled shrimp add-on with a nice glass of Dona Paula Malbec. Silence and bliss after my very first bit into one of the juiciest steaks i'd had out there. The juice the meat sits in allows you to just roll each cut into it as you enjoy your meal. My friend had the 12 oz pork tenderloin....awesome (i had a good 3-5oz of hers) with a side of cranberry sauce. When I say this is yet again another dish we recommend, it's proven by this past Tuesday's entourage I walked in with, where my entire crew on the other side of the table ALL had the tenderloin, lol. We've had beef, the filet oscar, the kababs (can be veggie, chicken, or shrimp over a bed of rice), the tenderloin, the lamb chop trio, the salmon, the walleye, seafood alfredo, and most recently the hailbut....yeah, we've covered the menu here as well. All incredible dishes. We were so impressed by this place as well that we hosted a company dinner before our project go-live. The staff accommodated all 20 of us with a great menu and top-notch service. For 20 heads, the price was a bargain complete with desserts, bottles of wine, cocktails (yes, the raspberry lemon-drop by request), and the amazing food. George (if I am not mistaken) is the man you need to talk to for setting up a party right on the dance floor. He penciled us in and there were no string behind it. Just an awesome place for a fantastic meal. Thanks again to the entire staff at CHOP for making our companies night a great start to a project kick-off.

After leaving a nearby restaurant because we had bad service we were very pleased with Chop. The service was excellent and the food was so good. I had the Greek Salad with homegrown veggies, delish! My friends each had the Prime Rib and thought it was the best they ever had. We will be back again soon.

I was in Mason City for a business trip, and stopped into Chop for dinner. The service was great, and I was pleasantly surprised at just how tasty my meal was. I opted for the Fettuccine Alfredo and really enjoyed it. Seems like a great place to hang out during peak hours.

This review is based on the fact that this restaurant, as you know is in Mason City Iowa... Atmosphere, could easily be in any major metropolitan center, it's newer (which in Iowa means... Clean (as compared to some of the other horrors around this town)). And it has a nice smaller restaurant area next door to a bar area that is pleasant but maybe just a little noisy (music playing late evening, nice dance area in the bar area). Food, only real competition to this place is the Quarry (within walking distance), but I've eaten at both places and prefer the Chop. The New England clam chowder I had (Friday) was the very best I've had in a very long time. Not overloaded with potatoes (like nasty clam chowder) generous with the clams (who doesn't like tasty clam) with an occasional carrot for variety and a few pieces of bacon for flavor add basil... Competition worthy. My friend ordered the seafood Alfredo... Excellent, pasta cooked to perfection, not overdone or chewy, shrimp were of good size and weren't popcorn shrimp from a damn bag (other restaurants). The Chefs at the Chop actually have a clue and the Bar tender Cassie is Very sweet and cares about her customers. Beware of some of the customers though... My impression... Secretly they imagine themselves living anywhere but Iowa.

I took my fiancé out for his B-Day dinner and was so excited to take him to CHOPS for his first time (I have been there before and really liked it). It was relatively early so there were not many people there yet. There was some very nice Jazz playing on satellite and the atmosphere was relaxing after a tough week... Nice... I ordered a bottle of the lovely Ruffino Aziano Chianti wine ... which was AWESOME! I also ordered the Baton Rouge Cajun Shrimp for an appetizer... the flavor was good (I LOVE blackened or Cajun seasoning) BUT it was very much over cooked... very rubbery like. We both ordered the butternut squash soup (I think that was what it was) for a starter, then I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon and Greek pasta and he ordered the maple glazed salmon and loaded baked potato... The soup was VERY bland (the bread was GREAT... too bad it was brought to us AFTER the soup was gone...). My juicy, tender filet was okay except it was very, very, very BLAH... no flavor. The "greek pasta" tasted like card board with a hint of oil... nothing like North Western Steakhouse version OR even my own homemade. The maple glazed salmon was dry and tasted heavily like a mixture of brown sugar and maple syrup was dumped on the top after the salmon was done... He said the potato was okay... slightly smoky flavored. He disliked his meal so much that I switched with him, but even I could not stomach it. Needless to say, we both were very disappointed. Me from having high hopes of giving him a pleasant surprise of "fine dining" for his B-Day and him from looking forward to trying a restaurant that he had only heard about but not had the pleasure of dining at here in little ole MC... and it fell very, very, very short of expectations.

Great atmosphere. The art on the wall and the table setting were seem less. The food was some of the best I've ever tasted. I have had filet in Vegas...but the one I had at Chop absolutely blew it away.

We were a party of five out to celebrate my birthday. Chop is located in an interesting building very close to the historic, Frank Lloyd Wright designed and fabulously renovated Park Inn Hotel in the center of Mason City. The resturant proper is nicely decorated and decidedly up-market while the next-door club, Eleven, which also has restaurant seating is cliché and down-market. We had reservations, but were first seated in a small booth in the club that would have been tight for four and were told an additional place setting and chair would be placed at the end of the table. This was unacceptable and unfortunately the staff evidenced lamentable reluctance to reseat us even though the table was CLEARLY inadequate for five people. Eventually reseated in the main restaurant, we had a further problem with dirty silverware. The saganaki appetizer was excellent and well presented. The fried peta points served with the saganaki were too greasy and the excellent table bread was a much better vehicle for the melted goat cheese. The wine list is adequate if uncreative. The cuisine is midwestern steakhouse with a Greek flair. We ordered a wide spectrum of items: filet mignon, roast duck, grilled salmon, a sliced chicken breast salad, and a pasta entrée. All but the pasta were above average, but the pasta was nearly inedible being greasy and cold. We ordered the baklava dessert and it was very tasty. The main problem with Chop is wasted potential. It is clear that this restaurant could become the premier eatery for special occasions in Mason City if they would only make excellence a priority. The staff needs more training and instruction in top-notch serving. Tasty garlic mashed potatoes served lukewarm and delicious filet slightly overdone may seem trivial on their own but in this setting and with the obvious potential of this establishment suggest a carelessness that insults the patrons. Finally, baklava MUST be served at room temperature. Tonights offering was chilled and that spoils both the taste and the texture of this delicacy. My three star rating is in recognition of the potential and for 4 out of 5 meals that were above average. The remaining meal disaster and the other annoyances will crush this steakhouse if efforts are not made immediately to make this into the superior dinner spot it could be.

My husband & I were recently in Mason City on business, being from San Francisco (a premier foodie town) we have sophisticated tastes. Chop has very good food! A steak house that serves local farmed beef, as well local produce grown in the region. We were not disappointed with the food. The back bar however could use a few European selections - Cointreau, Aperol, B&B, Campari, Chartreuse . . . The wait staff, - perhaps it was just ours, could use some pointers or just professional polishing. Hey - it's a city of 28,000 people, not NYC or SF . . . so over all a dam fine restaurant, and one of the few in Mason City. We'll be back - November.

Food was good so was the service, for about the same price the Quarry is better. I will try it again sometime and would still recommend it, just may not be the best.

I haven't had a good experience here yet. They have potential with a good location and a great atmosphere, but the food is just not good. The salad swims in dressing, and any meal you buy with a sauce won't be much different. Probably just inexperienced chefs in a new restaurant. We'll see what happens in the future!
